A Sunland Renaissance-era mortar artillery set featuring a wide short-barreled mortar war machine and four individual crew figures.
The mortar is constructed as a wide short-barreled cannon with a thick heavily ringed muzzle with multiple raised ring bands along the barrel length, a decorative crenellated collar ring at the base of the barrel, and a wide flared cascabel at the rear, mounted at a fixed upward angle on a heavy low-profile timber sled carriage with wide iron-banded side rails, a flat timber bed platform, and a large iron ring handle mounted on each side of the carriage, all on a wide flat rectangular base sized for standard 28–32mm scale compatibility. Two images show the mortar from different angles to display the full front and rear details of the carriage and barrel.
The four crew figures are each wearing a plain padded coat or brigandine jacket with a wide leather belt and heavy boots: a bald bare-headed loader with a heavyset build and an open-mouthed expression, walking forward in a wide stride with one arm raised gripping a long straight rammer or sponge staff with a wide cylindrical head held vertically overhead and the other arm hanging low cradling a large round cannonball at the hip; a helmeted figure wearing a close-fitting round arming cap with a short rear flap, standing in a wide planted stride with both arms gripping a large finned mortar bomb with a cylindrical body, a rounded nose, and four stabilizing tail fins held diagonally across the body at waist height; a heavyset bare-headed captain with a round face and a stern scowling expression, wearing a long plain apron over the coat and a wide leather belt with a square buckle, standing in a wide planted stance with one arm raised high gripping a short linstock or firing torch with a cylindrical head held aloft and the other arm hanging at the side gripping a wide-brimmed hat with a large feathered plume; and a bearded figure wearing a close-fitting round helm with cheek guards, wearing a plain padded coat with a wide leather belt and a small equipment pouch at the hip, standing in a wide braced stance with both arms raised and both hands pressed flat against the sides of the helm over the ears in a bracing-for-the-blast pose with a grimacing expression.
